Katharina Hinsberg, Thomas Müller, Rozbeh Asmani

The gallery is closed until the opening of the exhibition with works by Christian Frosch on 18 May. Visits are possible by appointment.

Visit us at the 8th edition of paper positions berlin, the fair for contemporary drawing, parallel to gallery weekend in Berlin.

At this year's paper positions berlin we are presenting works by Rozbeh Asmani, Thomas Müller and Katharina Hinsberg, the winner of the paper positions award 2023. Their works will be shown in a special presentation at the fair.

Thomas Müller (*1959) has been exploring the boundaries between painting and drawing on paper for three decades, constantly overcoming them with new pictorial inventions. The list of materials he uses and the number of variations in which he combines them seems endless: pencil, coloured pencil, copying pencil, chalk, acrylic paint, oil paint, various inks and, of course, blue biros. We are delighted to be showing a brand new large (160 x 115 cm) biros drawing at the fair.

In his research, Rozbeh Asmani (*1983) delves into the world of colour, image, scent, shape and word marks recognised by the European Patent Office. What is legally recognised as exclusive use is both surprising and frightening. He has worked on colours claimed by companies such as purple for Milka, magenta for Telekom or Aral blue in his Colourmarks group of works. The Financial Times Deutschland has stored page layouts including colour-marked areas in the patent documents. After lengthy research and with a great deal of negotiating skill, Asmani obtained the original paper from the newspaper for his works.

Katharina Hinsberg (*1967) explores real space and page space in equal measure. She scrutinises the concept of drawing and enriches it with many dimensions. The slow, concentrated cutting and detachment of lines plays just as important a role in her work as the usually fast, gestural, often body-related drawing process. In 2023 she has been honoured with the paper positions award for her filigree masterpieces. In addition to the gallery stand, her works will be on display on the large presentation wall at the entrance to the fair.
